The average loft is only 8 to 10 weeks away from becoming an extra bedroom, office, study or bathroom. If you need more space, and don't want to extend outward, a loft conversion is the perfect solution.

The space is there already, and most likely being used exclusively by your Christmas decorations and cardboard boxes of general stuff!

If you have 2 metres of space in your attic from floor to ceiling, there's a very good chance your loft will be a suitable candidate for a conversion. All you'll need to do is decide how you want to use all that extra space.

The Loft Conversion Process

If you have enough space, and you've decided on the purpose of the room - here's what you can expect during the conversion process: -

1. Strip out plumbing and electrics (existing)

   We'll prepare the loft for it's new purpose.

2. Upgrade first floor joists - strengthen them

   Safety first - we ensure your loft will support regular usage.

3. Fit soundproofing and insulation in between the joists.
4. Insulate the coombs and the roof itself

   Ensuring your new room will be cosy and fuel-efficient.

5. Run all new pipes and electrics
6. Form new dormers and fit any roof windows

   (A dormer is a structural element of a building that protrudes from the sloping roof surface)

7. Open up staircase area

   So you can easily access your new room.

8. Fit any partitions

   Depending on how many rooms you're adding.

9. Flooring, door fittings
10. For bathrooms - tiling & under-floor heating
11. Finishings: heating, lighting, bathroom fittings

    The average time it takes for us to complete a loft conversion is 8 to 10 weeks. As we're working on the roof, this timescale can be impacted by weather, so it can vary if the Scottish weather takes a turn for the worse. We'll also take the condition of your roof into account - some older houses may require a new roof if the loft conversion is to meet regulations - we'll check all this out for you when you're ready to have a chat.
